NORTH-EAST NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME FESTIVAL, 2020
The North-East NSS Festival 2020 was held from 20th to 25th of January 2020 in Don Bosco College, Tura. The festival was organised under the aegis of Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati with the collaboration of Don Bosco college, Tura and the active support from the Tura Government College, Durama College and Phukan Memorial College, Dalu.
The festival was ushered in amidst a soulful rendition of “Hallelujah” by Agape and Anne Balentina from Don Bosco College, Tura and flag hoisting was in perfect synchrony with the singing of the NSS Anthem led by the NSS volunteers of Tura Government College. The festival was attended by a little over 300 (three hundred) NSS volunteers from various colleges of the eight North-Eastern states of India.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Shri Anurag Kumar, IPS, DIG Western Range, Tura emphasized on selfless voluntary service and the necessity to give back to society what one has received. He cited the example of ‘the good Samaritan’ and urged the gathering to render generous service to those in need. Prof. Nikme S. C. Momin, HOD, Department of Education, NEHU Tura Campus, who was one of the Guests of Honour emphasized on self-preparation with a view to serve others. She reminded about inner preparation and garnering and reinforcing of inner strength in order to be of greater and better service to the community. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, Salesian Provincial of the Province of Guwahati spoke about community service and expressed his great joy at the number of NSS volunteers and added that it is a sign of great hope for future. Dipak Sharma, Youth Officer, NSS, Regional Directorate, Guwahati highlighted the NSS Structure in general and NE NSS Festival 2020 in particular. Fr. BivanRodriquesMukhim, Principal, Don Bosco College, Tura welcomed the distinguished guests, Programme Officers and NSS volunteers and expressed his joy that such a festival was being held for the first time in Tura.
